EuroPLoP-96 Writers Workshops
Back to EuroPLoP Program page.
All patterns and pattern languages will be reviewed in Writers Workshops
The objective is to acquire as much feedback for constructive improvement
of the reviewed patterns and pattern langages as possible.
The format is adapted from one used for the review of written works,
specifically poetry:
- The pattern (language) is discussed by a group of people that
includes its author and a group of reviewers familiar with the contents
of the pattern description. A moderator is also present to help the
participants follow the conventions of the workshop.
- The author of the pattern description reads a paragraph of their
choice from the pattern description.
- A reviewer summarizes the description from his/her personal viewpoint.
- In separate stages the strong points of the pattern description
are first discussed, then its deficiencies, and finally every
other aspect. Within this discussion, the author of the pattern
description is only `virtually' present-the author does not actively
participate in the discussion, nor do the reviewers address the author
directly. The reviewers should discuss the pattern description as
if its author is not present. The author is, however, allowed to
take notes about the discussion.
- After this discussion, the author may question the reviewers to
clarify particular statements made.
- The author concludes the session with a final comment on the discussion.
There are three writer's workshops. Every paper is assigned to one workshop
(see below). Authors are requested to stay with their workshop for
the whole conference. Non-authors can select the workshop they like to attend
at the beginning of the conference and are requested to stay with this workshop
for the whole conference. All workshop members are requested to read all
papers of their working group in advance.
