The growing importance of network-centric warfare is forcing traditional hard real-time systems to assume additional soft real-time and distributed processing responsibilities. Concurrently, middleware technologies such as real-time CORBA are being both adopted, and in some cases mandated, as a standard solution for these new challenges. Given the myriad options in RT CORBA and the complexities of intermixing hard and soft real-time processing, constructing an execution framework to solve these modern requirements has become overwhelmingly daunting. This presentation focuses upon the solution of one platform - the Bold Stroke model - applying RT CORBA and TAO's Real-Time Event Service to solve these real-world problems.
