  • You are to work individually, because the mind is an organ of the individual, not the collective.

  • You must hand this assignment to me in hard copy, in my box, or under my door.

  • If I have any work from you this semester, you can expect some kind of B- or higher. If you have some kind of A- or A-/B+ from me on a prior paper, and you do nothing, you will get a B+ for the semester. If you want an A- or higher, do this assignment.

  • You are to outline the most important ideas in this class, restricting yourself to ONE PAGE, no more than 60 lines, no more than 5000 symbols (a generous estimate). If you do this well, and you have more than two dozen words in english, you can expect an A-. If you do this well and use fewer than two dozen words in english, you can expect an A. Words that are introduced through proper definition do not count as words in english, nor do the mathematical keywords "defn.", "claim", "thm.", and "main idea of proof".

  • I expect that doing this exercise well requires about half of the page to be devoted to turing machines, recursive and recursively enumerable languages, and their properties. You may choose to include universal grammars and primitive recursive functions or NOT, without prejudice.
