The goal of this project is to develop and demonstrate an environment - an integrated set of network resource management techniques, network software, and middleware layers - for supporting multi-dimensional QoS on an end-to-end basis and exporting a unified, well-defined APIs for ATM-based distributed real-time environments.
To achieve multidimensional QoS, we plan to integrate in an analytic framework the following components for ATM-based distributed systems: (1) a flow specification and QoS transaltion/negotiation policy, (2) an admission control mechanism with thorough theoretical base, (3) a route selection function for sendder-initiated/receiver-initiated unicasts/multicasts, (4) an end-to-end resource reservation/adaptation manager, (5) a run-time fault tolerant message scheduler, (6) a traffic regulator and QoS monitor, and (6) a fast restoration mechanism based on the virtual path/virtual circuit (VP/VC) concept.
