The ACE ORB
A subset of the Distributed Object Computing (DOC) group here in
the CS Dept. at Washington University is in process of
developing an ORB able to meet the needs of real-time clients
and servers. This ORB, based on ACE, and thus named The ACE ORB
(TAO), will be freely-available with the standard ACE
distribution.
TAO is loosely based on the SunSoft IIOP reference
implementation, available from the OMG ftp site.
I am personally working on porting the ORB Core to be built
upon ACE. This will facilitate two ends:
- Cross-platform portability
- Support for realtime extensions
Our approach, and the extensions, have been submitted to the
OMG RFI for Realtime Extensions to
CORBA.
The following links may be of interest:
- Notes. This shows our
current TODO list and tracks our progress towards goals. Its
presentation and content reveals an ugly, industry-oriented
side of me.
- ORB Core Overview.
This is a short presentation given to a potential sponsor and
describes the work to be done on the ORB Core. It was
presented within the context of others who are working on
TAO. The whole set of presentations (in HTML form) can be
found here.
- Meeting Minutes. We've started
keeping meeting minutes so that it's easier to recall what
we've talked about.
- CORBA 2.0 Specification
(PDF) Straight from the OMG, but converted to PDF by yours
truly.
- Portable Object Adapter Specification
(PDF). Once again from the OMG, optimized for web
distribution by yours truly.
